Jessica Pride recently discussed her motivation for studying law and shared advice for the next generation of law students. She highlights the many ups and downs that students may face in law school, especially women.
Pride’s motivation for becoming a lawyer was from "an undeniable moral compass that steers my life in the direction of justice.”
As Pride recalled her journey as a law student, she said, "Law school teaches you how to think like a lawyer. It doesn’t teach you how to be a lawyer. What you do with the knowledge and how you apply it determines your success." Students looking for suitable work experience for law school should take note of this.
Since AI is making splashes in many industries, Pride also talked about AI’s role in law. She thinks that “with the integration of AI into the legal world, you really must hone your people skills. Everyone is going to submit a perfectly smart brief. How do you differentiate yourself? I think it comes down to how you argue, and how you speak to a jury or defense counsel or your client.”
Juris Education launched this series of interviews with noted lawyers to help aspiring and current law students learn from the best. Pride’s candid account of the sacrifices she’s made to become a successful lawyer and Managing Partner is truly inspiring.
